AIRROC NextGen and Mound Cotton Wollan & Greengrass cohosted a luncheon event entitled “Basics of Arbitration Workshop: The Key Things for Insurance Professionals to Know” at the October Transactions & Networking Forum. The workshop featured a wealth of insights and experiences from industry veterans, including Judy Harnadek, Marianne Petillo, Larry Greengrass, Sue Grondine, Amy Kallal, and NextGen Council member Kristen Kish. Was Their decades of experience dealing with disputes were of great value to provide a broad base of knowledge and help prepare more junior insurance professionals to navigate dispute processes. The event was divided into three sections:
- The Nuts and Bolts. This segment focused on arbitration clauses, including sample wordings and agreements to waive or modify. The panelists also discussed the arbitration notice or demand, as well as the arbitrator selection process.
- The Arbitration Process. The timeline of key events in any arbitration was reviewed, starting with the Organizational Meeting, scheduling and how it can go awry, discovery, the briefing and hearing and the final deliberation and award.
- Industry Insights and Lessons Learned: A Conversation and Sharing of Experiences. This portion of the workshop was a wrap up to offer practical perspectives and time for audience interaction and questions.
The workshop was an excellent forum for veteran professionals to share their expertise and experience to assist younger professionals in their career development.
