AIRROC extends a warm welcome to new Board Members Simon Hawkins, Dawn Ballin and Brendan McQuiggan and congratulates Megan McHugh in her new role as Secretary of the Board. AIRROC looks forward to the enthusiasm and fresh ideas they bring and working with them towards a successful journey together. Let us introduce you to the newest members of our talented, creative and dynamic team!
Simon Hawkins, Chief Financial Officer, Compre, “opened” his career at AIRROC as a band member of the evening’s entertainment. That was in 2007. You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD2KuQr1A4c. In between record label contracts, he has used AIRROC over the course of his career, at PWC, at QBE, and now at Compre, to meet counterparties, get to know others in the legacy markets, and negotiate commutations. When AIRROC is able to have their next theatrical extravaganza, we will all be demanding an encore— a rousing rendition of Mustang Sally will be just what we all need.
Dawn Ballin, Vice President – Head of Property & Casualty Claims, Enstar, is a new member of AIRROC and joined at the urging of Enstar’s President and CEO to fill an open Board position. She attended her first event and board meeting in March 2020 and is excited for Enstar staff to benefit from the educational opportunities and connections in the run-off industry through AIRROC seminars and events. Dawn lives in Hoboken, NJ with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys the luxury of a weekly acupuncture session to bring balance in her life and to boost her immunity.
Brendan McQuiggan, VP Ceded Reinsurance, Chubb (Brandywine Holdings) has “only” been going to AIRROC since 2015, however, he inherits from Peter Scarpato not only his Board seat, but a deep-seated appreciation of how useful AIRROC can be. He believes that AIRROC’s industry functions are the place to “get things done”. From training and professional development opportunities to face-to-face meetings to do deals, he supports its service to members and will continue Peter’s commitment—big shoes to fill. In his free time, Brendan is active in supporting his daughter’s Girl Scout camping and cookie sale adventures. Now we know where to get our Thin Mints.
Megan McHugh, Senior Assumed Claims Handler, Brandywine Group, has graciously agreed to become Secretary of the Board of AIRROC. She has been attending AIRROC events since July of 2016 when she seized the educational opportunities encouraged by Chubb and obtained both an ARe and a CLIP designation in short order. Having been out of reinsurance for a couple of years, she found that AIRROC meetings and education sessions offered her a fast-track in networking opportunities. For instance, at her first conference she met and chatted with Robert Sherwood. A couple of years later, when she was told he was the first person she needed to contact when she took over an account, she was delighted to catch up with him again. In her spare time, Meghan loves to travel, as well as to research and read about travel adventures. Last year, she and her family hiked the “Big 5” national parks in Utah and it was one of her favorite trips.
