AIRROC’s Three Part Webinar Series
With the majority of insurance professionals working from home as the result of the global pandemic, AIRROC’s three part webinar series was a great success as evidenced by the nearly 600 participants from as far as Singapore to Malta.
Carolyn Fahey, Executive Director of AIRROC, moderated all three webinars and stated: “It is great to see such an enthusiastic response from our members to this webinar series! We had originally scheduled this for earlier in the year and then postponed as we all transitioned to new work arrangements. It was a good time to offer this set of sessions designed for those interested in learning more about the runoff sector. Watch for more sessions to be announced soon!”
In conjunction with the Reinsurance Association of America, the spring webinar series commenced on April 22nd with Introduction to Property Casualty Reinsurance and included presenters Frank Nutter (Reinsurance Association of America) Leah Spivey (Munich Re), and Jack Whittle (Odyssey Group). The covered topics included the elements, methods and types of reinsurance followed by a detailed discussion on understanding reinsurance agreements and standard contract clauses.
The second webinar, Introduction to Runoff, was presented on April 29th by Jonathan Bank and Al Bottalico (Locke Lorde), Andrew Maneval (Chesham Consulting) and Katherine Baker (KB Consulting). The webinar provided an overview on how the runoff sector emerged followed by the various forms of runoff, market considerations and the current regulatory landscape.
The series concluded on May 6th with Arbitration and Litigation Overview presented by Edward Diffin and Sean Keely (Freeborn & Peters) and Teresa Snider (Porter Wright Morris & Arthur). This webinar identified the common disputes that arise in reinsurance contracts, the difference between arbitration and litigation, the stages of arbitration and post arbitration considerations.
Mary Kate Donnelly, Senior Manager, Specialty Operations at Allstate, participated in all three webinars and was impressed with the “extremely knowledgeable presenters” that were able to breakdown areas of “complicated subject matter and explain it in an easy to understand manner”. Mary Kate further added that all three webinars provided presentation slides that were “a breadth of information with great reference material included” and looks forward to future AIRROC webinars.
