AIRROC is please to present the 8th Annual Trish Getty Scholarship to two very deserving St. Joseph University students, Joseph Angelina and Melissa Navrot.
AIRROC presented the Trish Getty Scholarship to two very deserving St. Joseph University students this year. The scholarship was founded to honor the contributions of AIRROC’s first Executive Director. The 8th Annual award recipients are Joseph Angelina and Melissa Navrot, who are both looking to graduate in May 2020. The selection committee had a difficult time choosing between the two candidates so decided to split the scholarship between two recipients. In presenting the scholarships, Ed Gibney highlighted their accomplishments.
Joe will graduate with a B.S. in Business Administration with a double major in Risk Management & Insurance and Business Intelligence and Analytics. He has already made great progress toward his professional goals, having already completed 5 of his CPCU courses, and earned his producers’ license. Joe’s awards and accolades include being a member of Saint Joseph University’s First Place Spencer RIMS Risk Challenge Team 2019, receiving the WSIA Derek Hughes Educational Foundation Scholarship, and having presented at the Philadelphia Chapter of the CPCU and at the RIMS Delaware Valley Chapter. He is also an athlete with multiple cross country and track titles. He will be joining the broking firm, RT Specialty, upon graduation.
Melissa will also graduate in May 2020, and is majoring in Risk Management & Insurance, with a minor in Biology. Initially, she was a biology major but then decided to pursue business and, after taking a Introduction to Insurance course, found her new direction. She is a member of the Executive Board of Gamma Iota Signa, the Panhellenic Executive Council, and the recipient of the Phi Sigma Sigma “Above the Standards” award. She has already gained real-world experience, having interned at NSM Insurance Group and has completed 6 of her CPCU courses.
The $5,000 annual scholarship was established by the AIRROC Board of Directors in honor of Trish Getty, the founding Executive Director of AIRROC. It is awarded to a student studying Insurance, Risk Management, or Actuarial Science who is in need of financial aid for tuition. Students submit an essay as part of the application process, and a subcommittee of the AIRROC Board makes the selection each year.
In accepting their awards, Joe and Melissa both expressed how honored and grateful they were to have been chosen and emphasized that this type of aid is vital in helping to develop the next generation of talent for the insurance industry. AIRROC wishes them the best as they finish their schooling and hope that we see them working for an AIRROC member company in the future!
