September was a busy month as I travel across the pond for the London Regional Education Day hosted by Kennedys and then on to Monte Carlo for the 2024 Rendez-Vous de Septembre – the annual gathering of the reinsurance market now in its 66th year.
The London Regional Education Day was a great success hosted by Kennedys at their offices in the Walkie Talkie building. The agenda included a session on artificial intelligence and US regulation, which is a fast developing area; arbitration differences between US proceedings and those in the UK; the growing challenge of claims inflation and nuclear verdicts in the US; and PFAS. So many interesting insights and thought-provoking conversations with the audience transpired on important issues facing our industry.
While in London, I met with a number of our members and potential members to broaden our network and strategize for the future! I also attended The Insurer’s Pre-Monte Carlo Forum where the senior level speakers provided great insights on what’s ahead for the industry. A very notable meeting took place at Lloyd’s with their new Chief Commercial Officer. Look for engagement from Lloyd’s at AIRROC next year!
After a night to refresh and relax a bit in Nice with a gorgeous view of the sea from an Airbnb it was on to Monte Carlo! Amplifying the benefits of AIRROC and raising our profile is central to our core mission. The annual Reinsurance Rendezvous provides a fantastic setting to spread our message and connect with insurance industry executives and professionals from around the world. All the more so, in light of the expanding recognition that the legacy sector is vital to the broader insurance ecosystem.
I really enjoy having the opportunity to meet with so many people that I would not otherwise have the chance to sit down with and share what I love about legacy! The thing about Monte Carlo is that once you have attended a few times the invitations to various events increase year over year. I had a very “full” dance card over two days and enjoyed attending events organized by PwC, E&Y, Acrisure, Guernsey, and others! I connected with Davies, Marco, Fleming, Markel, Aspen, DGTAL – and so many others at the various events.
Tuesday evening, September 10th, AIRROC hosted our second legacy reception at Avenue 31, along with co-sponsoring members and corporate partners. The venue boasts amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea that just added to a most enjoyable sunset. The guest list was nearly doubled from last year, and much enthusiasm ensued in the conversations!
Thanks to our co-hosts and to everyone who attended for the success of our Avenue 31 reception. AIRROC is looking forward to next year!
